Schools Reopen
On 26th October Grade 4 and Standard 8 primary school pupils and Form 4 secondary school pupils were able to return to school. One of the conditions for reopening was that the school provide hand washing facilities for the pupils and teachers. The Kisima Foundation donated 35 Tippy Taps to the 8 primary and 2 secondary schools in the area.
Covid 19 food donations
The Kisima Foundation donated 940kg of wheat flour to 205 families from Buuri and Mugumone. The families are those who are struggling as a result of a lack of casual jobs in the area. Thank you to Kisima Farm for the donation of the flour and to the Ministry of Interior for overseeing the distribution exercise.
Porridge donations
As the schools have been closed as a result of Covid 19, the Kisima Foundation decided to donate all the porridge stocks from various schools to the vulnerable persons within the surrounding community. The schools were Karimba, Abuja, Ndurumuru, Gundua, Mugumone and Kamiti. The issuing of the porridge was co-ordinated by the local chiefs in the area.
348 people benefitted from the donations.
Hand washing stations
With the outbreak of Covid 19 and the advice of the WHO that regular hand washing is very effective in slowing the spread of the disease. The Kisima Foundation with support from the Forestry department has built 40 hand washing stations which have been distributed in the area.
The ‘Tippy Taps’ are designed with a simple pedal to regulate the water flow and the 20lt water container is filled with chlorinated water and is refilled twice a week.

Playground Facilities
Following on from the great progress in 2019, the Kisima Foundation, with help from the Forestry Department has built playground facilities at four schools in the area: Kibirione, Maritati, Kamiti and Ethi.
Science laboratory and library completed at Subuiga Secondary School
The refurbished science laboratory and library at Subuiga Secondary School were completed in March. The library is fully stocked with a great selection of books and the laboratory has all the basic science equipment.
Permaculture Garden at Maritati and Kianda Primary Schools
With the success of the permaculture garden at Kibirione School, the project has now been started at Maritati and Kianda Primary Schools.
The students at Maritati Primary School planted over 100 avocado trees as well as sweet potatoes, potatoes, maize and spinach.
Library and Laboratory at Subuiga Secondary School
A new library and science laboratory is currently being built at Subuiga Day Secondary School.
Permaculture gardens at Kibirione School
The permaculture garden at Kibirione School is working well. Here the students are harvesting sweet potatoes from the garden for lunch.
Maths champions of Meru County
The Gundua Secondary school students recently won the maths champions of Meru County!
Agri Field Day - 29th January 2019
The event was held on the 29th of January and was a great success with over 700 farmers attending and 17 exhibitors.
Gundua Foundation Graduations
Two students from the Gundua Foundation Scholarship program graduated from university in December 2018 after 4 years of studying. Agnes Wairimu graduated from Kisii University with a Bachelor Degree in Nutrition & Dietetics. David Maingi graduated from Mason University with a Bachelors Degree in Medical Laboratory Science.
