Forestry.

Kisima’s forestry programme ensures that every available acre is in production, and that the farm’s carbon footprint is offset.

Kisima maintains a plantation forest estate that primarily comprises Pinus radiata, Pinus patula, Cuppressus lusitanica and Eucalyptus.  We are growing our nursery to include a wide variety of indigenous species. These will ensure diversity of trees we plant in the farm and those that go to tree planting projects in the Mt. Kenya area. Through the tree planting program, “Mti Wangu…Mstakabali Wetu” (“My Tree…Our Future”), Kisima has donated 10,000 tree seedlings to local schools and public institutions,

In 2022, Kisima Farm underwent a carbon footprint assessment conducted by Green Earth Climate Action (GECA), which confirmed the farm's carbon neutrality for on-farm activities. The farm is dedicated in ensuring the area where no agronomic activities is carried out is filled with trees, an important aspect in combating climate change.

Kisima operates two band sawmills, producing over 85,000 running meters of timber annually, and sells sawn timber, poles, and products such as school desks and potato boxes. Kisima is a major source of Pinus radiata wood which is popular in all types of interior construction. It is ideal for ceilings, framing, beams, flooring, cabinetry, skirtings and cladding. It can also be used for exposed structural and non-structural applications when treated.
