Kisima Floriculture had a very successful Valentines Day supplying record levels of top quality Madame Red to the Dutch auctions. Good prices and high production have made for a very successful start to the year!
Mathiola Bedrooms
The Kisima Floriculture department has completed the building of new greenhouses which have been patented 'Mathiola Bedrooms'. The greenhouses are made using all recycled materials apart from the plastic sheeting.

Rose Planting
Rose planting is underway as all the Floriculture teams are motivated and planting for the future.
Cloud on the ground
The weather conditions have started to lift after a few weeks of very cold and foggy conditions at Kisima.
Summer Flowers
The new Summer flowers trial area is progressing well and the trial house will be completed by mid October. This is an exciting project as it will enable Floriculture to look at both indoor and outdoor Summer flowers. The Craspedia crop expansion is also underway and the flowers are looking beautiful!
'Julie'
We are growing a new variety of rose called ‘Julie which will be going into semi commercial planting in June.
Matthiola
The Matthiola crop is growing beautifully in the cold store and new varieties have been added.
Free Spirit Intenz
Kisima launched a new variety of rose - Free Spirit Intenz. This rose is exclusive to Kisima Farm and has proven very popular in the market despite these difficult times with Covid 19 affecting the export of flowers.
Valentines Day
February 2020 was a successful month with a strong Valentine's where the red rose ‘Madame Red’ proved very popular. Kisima quality shone through, despite all the rain, and there was great feedback from Holland.
New Delphinium Crop
The rains have arrived just in time for our new Delphinium crop.
Craspedia Pop
The first crop of Craspedia is pictured being held by Francis Kyalo, the Production Manager. This new flower will be tested in the market in September and will be in full production by Valentines Day 2020

Kisima Scouts
The scouts are a very important team as the first line of defense scouting for disease and pests on the flowers. They use the Scarab Scout app on their phones which pinpoints any threat to the flowers. This threat is then sent to the office computers and the production managers can then act quickly before the threat becomes an issue, resulting in saved crops. This app is fantastic in that it means that we do not need to use chemicals on the plants when they are not needed and we use the IPM (Integrated Pest Management) strategies first.
New trials at Kisima
We have begun trials on a new variety of summer flowers, both outdoor and under cover, these include Mathiolla, Veronica and Alstroemeria.
1st prize for Kisima Farm 'Hurricane' Rose at Keukenhof
We are very proud to have won 1st prize for our rose variety ‘Hurricane’. We were winners of the best imported rose in the show, beating all the competition at the Keukenhof fair.
